Where to Eat & Drink in Edinburgh
There is so much choice in Edinburgh, some good and some not so good. Here are three of our favourite places on and around the Royal Mile, all just a short walk from the apartments where you can eat and drink. They are independently owned and not “cut and paste” chains so expect great Scottish food, a huge whisky selection and a warm welcome.
Whiski Bar & Restaurant
Right in the middle of the Royal Mile and a few minutes to the right of our Royal Mile apartment, Whiski Bar & Restaurant is a lively, traditional Scottish bar with over 300 whiskies behind the bar and free live music every night of the week. The kitchen serves classic Scottish dishes made with locally sourced produce, from haggis to Scottish salmon and steak.
Get down early for a good seat, they leave most of the venue for walkins and welcome children so go for dinner, stay for a dram and the live music: it is the perfect place to soak up a real Edinburgh atmosphere.

Copper Still
Copper Still is a vibrant bar and restaurant right in the middle of the Royal Mile, between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse and close to St Giles Cathedral. It is moments from our Royal MIle apartment and does amazing breakfasts, open from 9am every day through to late, serving fresh Scottish dishes made with local suppliers – think Haggis, Steaks, eggs benedict and the best outside seating area for watching the Royal Mile vibes.
The drinks list covers Scottish craft beers, whiskies, gins, amazing cocktails and fine wines.

Whiski Rooms
Just off the Royal Mile on North Bank Street or “the mound”, Whiski Rooms is a fabulous Scottish bar and restaurant just moments from Edinburgh Castle that hosts daily whisky tastings. You can buy bottles of whisky there too and try before you buy. Choose from over 300 malts and blends, plus cocktails, wines and Scottish craft beers. Fabulous location for a sun downer and the best views over Princes Street over the Mound.
The menu pairs hearty Scottish dishes with whisky suggestions, and the whisky tastings, including a whisky and cheese pairing, are a great way to explore Scotland’s national drink. Any dram you enjoy can be bought in the shop to take home.
